National Renewal Conference 2017 27-29 October @ St Ursula’s College, 8 Rome St, Toowoomba

A Changing Church

500 years ago, Martin Luther nailed 95 theses for discussion on a church door, and – to everyone’s great surprise – this launched a movement of reformation which touched the whole world. Millions (re)discovered the nature of faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of God and the power of salvation.

In our day, we long for God to change us again, and give

  • a new passion for Jesus,
  • humility to embrace the unity of the wider church,
  • and the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

The National Renewal Conference is for you, if you are hungry for a new movement of reformation among the churches, and long to be changed yourself.

We expect to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and come away with fresh faith and love for Jesus Christ, forgiveness and healings, spiritual gifts and a heart for service, and a burden for the lost.

“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God” (Acts 10:44-46).

Rolland Baker

Dr Rolland Baker was one of the main speakers at last year’s Renewal Conference. He ministered in the joy of the Lord, but also acknowledged that many Pentecostals neither expected a “laughing revival” nor wanted it, because they longed to become more “respectable” and not look “weird” to mainline Christians. Dr Baker admonished us to keep our focus on Jesus, and resist any triumphalism which no longer has an understanding of Christian suffering. And he emphasized God’s sovereign leadership which trumps human control.

Dr Rolland Baker is one of the founders and leaders of Iris Global, and – after years of overseeing an amazing work of God – he is recognized and respected across the world.

Edgar Mayer

Dr Edgar Mayer is the Senior Pastor of the Living Grace Lutheran Church, Toowoomba, and serves as the Chair of Lutheran Renewal, a national renewal movement. He freely acknowledges that faith renewal, and especially an understanding of the Holy Spirit, has come to him through non-Lutheran pastors and church members. Therefore, the unity among Christians is dear to his heart, as he ministers through his books, conferences and giving leadership to Living Grace and Lutheran Renewal.

At last year’s conference, he led the session where hundreds of Lutherans publicly repented to their Pentecostal brothers and sisters in Christ. Lutherans were on their knees, and many were in tears, as they confessed their negative attitude and judgements toward Pentecostals. The next day, we celebrated Holy Communion together.

Shayne Bennett

Shayne Bennett is married to Shanelle and they have three married children and ten grandchildren. In 1973, Shayne attended the first conference of Catholic Charismatic Leaders in Canberra and since that time has held a variety of leadership roles within the charasmatic renewal. Shayne is the Founding Executive Director of NET Ministries in Australia (a national youth ministry of evangelisation reaching 30,000 youth and young adults each year), former Moderator of the Emmanuel Community and Director of Uganda Mission. His current roles include: Manager of FX (Francis Xavier) Mission (a new initiative in University Ministry which works in conjunction with Catholic University Chaplaincy/Campus Ministry as an extension of its commitment to evangelisation, discipleship and missionary formation), Director of Mission and Faith Formation at the Holy Spirit Provincial Seminary which includes working with seminarians as a formator and lecturer, and Executive Member of the Catholic Fraternity (a Pontifical Association of Catholic Charismatic Communities). Over the years, Shayne Bennett has experienced much in Catholic Charismatic Renewal and is able to share from a deep well of wisdom and insight.

Tatjana Mayer

Tatjana Mayer is married to Edgar Mayer. They have two daughters, Dominique (25) and Francisca (21) who are both active in their faith. Together with her husband, Tatjana pastors Living Grace in Toowoomba and travels across Australia and overseas to offer ministry seminars. Tatjana spent her early years growing up in Germany and came to Australia in 1987, where she completed a Bachelor of Theology and a Masters of Theology. After starting ministry in their first congregation in Toowoomba in 1996, she continued to study education and has worked as a high school teacher in schools across Toowoomba. Since gaining a Masters degree in Educational Counselling Tatjana has focussed on congregational and ministry work, in particular in the areas of counselling and teaching.
